Trey NewtonTrey Newton is a Vice-President at Wilson Research Strategies.

Focus
Trey Newton has extensive experience with public opinion surveys and policy research projects for hundreds of candidates, companies, political organizations and government entities.  Trey specializes in Texas based projects in both the political and corporate arena with a focus on developing the winning messages to successfully move an issue or opinion.  As research techniques constantly evolve to keep pace with technology, Trey ensures he is up to date with latest advancements in his field.

Pertinent Background & Relationships

  • Prior to joining Wilson Research Strategies, Trey founded the Tower Institute, named in honor of the late Senator John G. Tower, and served as Executive Director until 2007. The Tower Institute functions a non-profit public policy group focused on both primary (qualitative and quantitative) and secondary research into fiscal issues impacting the State of Texas and business community.  
  • Through his leadership of the Tower Institute, Trey developed extensive experience researching and identifying critical state issues, developing legislative solutions, and fostering the passage of those solutions by educating the Texas Legislature and the citizens of Texas to maintain a favorable business climate in the state.
  • Trey also served as Chief of Staff to Railroad Commission Chairman Carole Keeton Strayhorn – an agency that oversaw and regulated the production of oil and gas resources in Texas.  In 1998, Trey was part of Chairman Strayhorn’s team as she was elected the Texas Comptroller. He then spent 4 years serving as Special Assistant to the Comptroller.  During that time Trey was involved in literally hundreds of research projects on a wide variety of issues including projects related to state and local governments, Comptroller tax policy initiatives and the e-Texas program looking for ways to improve efficiency, services and cost savings in state government.

  • B.A. in Statistical Psychology from the University of Texas.
  • Foundations in Business from the McCombs School of Business, the University of Texas.
  • Member of the American Marketing Association
