Obama and the Media
For a President who has built a career off of the media’s favorable coverage, Barack Obama, has recently taken to attacking news organizations
Â
The latest is this article from Politico: White House slams AP story. Add this to the administration’s holy war against Fox News and the media’s reaction to it (admittedly, tepid but still a response) and we may be seeing the beginning of the end of the media’s love affair with President Obama.
Â
This latest outburst directed towards the media is over this article: Stimulus jobs overstated by thousands. Some of the highlights from the article include:
- A company working with the Federal Communications Commission reported that stimulus money paid for 4,231 jobs, when about 1,000 were produced.
- A Georgia community college reported creating 280 jobs with recovery money, but none was created from stimulus spending.
- A Florida child care center said its stimulus money saved 129 jobs but used the money on raises for existing employees.
Â
Perhaps the administration is pushing back so hard against stories like these is that the American public does not feel like the stimulus is working. In a recent CNN/Opinion Research Poll of adults 56% said they do not believe that the policies of Barack Obama have made the economy better.
Â
I guess it is always easier to just shoot the messenger.
