Health care for all? Not so fast say American voters.

With the health care debate starting to take center stage in Washington, voters are telling Congress and the President pretty clearly where they stand,

Recent polling shows that if health care reform means giving illegal immigrants health insurance from the government then 80% of all Americans are against this proposal.  22% of the 46 million Americans without health insurance in the United States are illegal immigrants.  Most voters also feel that health care should not be mandatory for Americans.

Meanwhile, 65% of Americans believe that Americans should all have access to quality health care.

The most recent proposal we have seen is a $1 TRILLION plan over ten years that will only cover 16 million of the estimated 46 million people without health insurance.  Clearly this is not the answer.  Co-ops I believe will help many private sector and small business employers to afford to offer health care to their employees and make it affordable for employees to purchase health care through their company.  Simply asking the taxpayers to foot the bill for a universal health care system we know does not work in every country that has it simply is not the answer.

Future of GOP: Youth and Hispanics

GOP Strategist Mike Murphy has a great article in Time magazine that reiterates what I’ve been saying since the exit polling showed a huge win by Obama among youth and Hispanic voters – simply, the way for Republicans to retake power is to target Hispanics and youth with new messages. Mu

Check out my latest post on Politics Magazine’s Campaign Insider Blog about the difficulty of first-time candidates to focus on selling themselves before moving on to the issues (a possibily fatal mistake).
