Recently the Obama Administration released memos detailing how the government used harsh interrogation techniques on terrorists to prevent further attacks.
The question being raised now by many is whether Bush Administration officials should be held accountable for these actions and whether to release other memos showing the American people what was learned from using these techniques.
Interestingly, only a slim majority of Americans, 51%, favor an investigation into the Bush Administration, but of those Americans following the story closely, a much higher 58% oppose it.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney has called on the Obama Administration to show both sides of the story and release the memos showing the information that was gained by using these techniques not on soldiers of a foreign country, but on blood thirsty, terrorists.
In my view, these are people who would kill my children without even thinking twice. They murdered 3,000 plus people in the US on a single day, and thousands more innocent lives throughout the years all over the world. We should use whatever tactics it takes to keep Americans safe from these animals. Have we kept America safer by releasing these memos and stopping harsh techniques? I certainly don’t think so. My guess is that the Obama Administrations unwillingness to make public the CIA memos showing the success and lives saved by using these techniques will show he jumped the gun on this issue and didn’t think through it strategically enough.
