Stimulus Bill Taking a Toll on Congressional Numbers

As the economy continues to show signs of trouble, the U.S. Congress is working toward solving the problem with an increasingly unpopular solution and their approval ratings are reflecting that fact.

Recent surveys by Rasmussen show that support for the economic stimulus plan has fallen from 45% three weeks ago to 37% last week.  Another study shows 50% of American voters believe the final version of the economic stimulus plan from Congress will actually make the economy worse.

As of last week 54% of American Voters thought that Congress was doing a poor job according to another Rasmussen study.  In the same study, only 12% of American Voters believe Congress to be doing a good or excellent job.  By comparison, this time eight years ago only 18% said that Congress was doing a poor job.

The news gets worse for these elected officials as 71% of voters think Members of Congress are more interested in their careers while only 17% felt the Members were more interested in helping people.
