With President Obama warning of dire consequences if the stimulus package is not passed, and the seemingly never ending news about the unemployment rate rising day by day, recent polling shows that the majority of Americans are comfortable that they will not be laid off any time soon.

68% of Americans say that they are not worried about being laid off in the near future.  Only 29% said that they were worried, and only 2% have said they have been laid off in the last six months.

While Americans seemed less concerned about losing their jobs, Americans in general overwhelmingly, 80%, said the economy is getting worse not better.

So while Americans seem to be comfortable with their own personal situations, they also realize that there is a real concern about the overall general economy of the country.

President Obama and Congress have a lot of work to do to present a stimulus package that will really help to stimulate job growth and cut taxes on small business to ensure our economy grows again.  Spending and tax increase will simply place America back on the track to higher inflation and higher taxes making Americans more pessimistic about their own personal finances and that of the country’s economy.
