More on public opinion of the stimulus

Over at The Weekly Standard Mary Katharine Ham points to a new CBS News poll (Full results available here) that indicates that Americans want a bipartisan bill that lowers taxes rather than increases spending.

In your opinion which will do more to get the U.S. out of the current recession: increasing government spending, or reducing taxes on business?

Increase government spending – 22%
Reduce taxes on business – 59%

This is essentially the argument that Republicans are making – and the public is clearly with them. 81% of respondents in the poll said that they believed it was important for the bill to have bipartisan support, while only 13% said its OK for Democrats to pass the bill with no Republican backing. And the GOP isn’t being quiet about the fact that they’ve essentially been shut out of the process.
