Stealing the MN Senate Seat

US Senate Democrats are now expected to seat Ronald Burris, the Senate appointee of embattled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, just a week after barring him from being sworn-in with other Senator-elects citing Burris’ lack of proper credentials.

So, what happened?  Why the reversal?

The truth is that a day after refusing to accept Burris under Senate Rule II, Harry Reid said that he was considering seating Al Franken.  The problem is that Franken, like Burris, doesn’t have a certification of his election – a requirement of Senate Rule II.  Reid, and the Senate Democrats, are trying to seat Franken in an attempt to cut short Norm Coleman’s legal contest of the MN election.

After several days of taking heat from pundits like myself in the media (see below) about trying to steal the MN election, Reid decides to throw out Senate Rule II and seat Burris.  This would open the way to force the seating of Al Franken as the Senator of MN without having any documentation.
